Vape Cartridges vs. Disposables — Which One is Actually Right for You?

Vape cartridges and disposables both get the job done — but they work differently and suit different consumers. Here's what our team thinks you should know before you pick one up.

Vapes are one of the most popular products we carry — and for good reason. They're discreet, easy to use, simple to dose, and require none of the prep that comes with flower. But standing at the counter looking at cartridges on one side and disposables on the other, it's not always obvious which one makes more sense for you.

Here's the breakdown.

What's Actually Different

A vape cartridge is a pre-filled tank of cannabis oil designed to attach to a separate rechargeable battery — most commonly a 510 thread battery, which is the industry standard connection type. You buy the oil and the battery separately. When the cartridge runs out you replace just the cartridge and keep using the same battery.

A disposable is an all-in-one unit. The oil, the battery, and the heating element are all built into a single device that you use until it's empty and then dispose of entirely. Nothing to charge before your first use, nothing to assemble, nothing to maintain.

When a Cartridge Makes More Sense

If you're a regular vape user, cartridges are the smarter long-term choice. The cost per milligram of oil is typically lower than disposables. You get a wider selection of oil options and brands. And once you've invested in a quality battery you only need to replace the cartridge itself going forward.

The one thing to stay on top of is keeping your battery charged. Dead battery means you're waiting — plan accordingly.

When a Disposable Makes More Sense

Disposables are the right call for first-time vape users, occasional consumers, or anyone who values simplicity above everything else. They come ready to use right out of the package. There's no setup, no separate purchase, no learning curve.

The Honest Tradeoff is Cost

Disposables run higher per milligram than cartridges. For someone who uses a vape twice a month that premium is worth not having to think about it. For someone using it daily it adds up fast.

What to Tell Your Budtender

When you come in, just tell us how often you plan to use it and whether you already own a battery. That's all we need to point you in the right direction. First-timer or occasional user — we'll probably start you on a quality disposable. Regular user — we'll help you find a reliable battery and a cartridge worth your time.

Our selection rotates so stop in and see what we're currently carrying. We're at 643 E State Street in Colon, Michigan. Open every day 8am to 8pm.
